Truk Odyssey Well recognized by wreck diving enthusiasts as one of
the ultimate destinations for warm water wreck divers, the waters
of Truk Lagoon are filled with the remnants of the Japanese Imperial
Navy's 4th Fleet. After the U.S. Navy's "Operation Hailstone" ended,
over 60 submerged warships, freighters, tankers, submarines and aircraft
ended up within reach of today's divers when they arrive at this oasis
for wreck divers. The wrecks are covered with lush growths of hard
and soft corals, teeming with numerous varieties of fish life, and
full of artifacts from the Japanese Army, Navy, and Air Force, including
18" naval artillery ordnance destined for the battleships Yamato and
Musashi and tanks, aircraft and other supplies. Dive wrecks like the
the Fujikawa Maru, Shinkoku Maru, Hanakawa Maru, and see why Truk
Lagoon is a wreck diver's paradise. This year, a new live-aboard,
the Truk Odyssey, has arrived in Chuuk to offer sport divers and technical
wreck divers the opportunity to dive the wrecks of Truk Lagoon year
round. Technical wreck divers will be able to take advantage of the
Odyssey's state of the art compressor, which will allow divers the
opportunity to dive with anything from compressed air to Nitrox to
closed circuit rebreathers. Nitrox fills up to 80% are free of charge
and twin tank set-ups are available. The Odyssey has nine deluxe,
air-conditioned staterooms, all with private heads and showers and
accommodates 18 divers.
