SS THORFINN DIVING

SS Thorfinn Specificatoins       SS Thorfinn Overview

Truk Lagoon's spectacular remains of over 70 coral draped ships and hundreds of aircraft from former Japanese Imperial forces were condemned to watery graves by U.S. Naval air attacks in "Operation Hailstone" late in World War II. They now lie scattered within comfortable sport diving range between many islands on the 40 mile wide sea floor of Truk's huge lagoon.

'THORFINN' began diving at Micronesia 15 years ago with Truk featured as one of various highlights for its magnificently sheltered lagoon and great wreck diving. Today, with Truk as its adopted base, 'THORFINN' features the world's finest wreck diving under superbly comfortable conditions of warm, relatively clear, and current free waters.

Diving naturally on air without complex and expensive frills of so called 'tech', 'THORFINN's dive programs provide safe uncomplicated access to all of Truk's wonders at any depth on a non mandatory decompression (by computer) basis. Expert local guides illuminate every aspect of interest from a war torn era, and will escort you through an impressive list of sites, typically named as follows …Shinkoku Maru …Fumitsuki … Fujikawa Maru … Nippo Maru … I-169 Submarine … Betty Bomber … Jill Torpedo Bomber … Yamagiri Maru … Rio de Janeiro Maru … Amagisan Maru … Sankisan Maru … Hokuyo Maru … San Francisco Maru … Shotan Maru … Futagami … Hanakawa Maru … Fujisan Maru.

Explore these massive remarkably intact hulks that provide the finest collection of wreck sites anywhere in the world. Sunken bounties of bombs, torpedoes, guns, tanks, planes, mines, trucks, bulldozers and huge cannon shells rest in ghostly silence on Truk's floor. Draped with brilliant soft corals and colorful tropic fish, they recall a moment to long be remembered.

Living above the wrecks within minutes of most popular sites, diving is conducted from four 24ft. twin engined dive tenders transporting just six divers and their guides to each dive site. Six diver maximums assure an uncrowded, silt free wreck with most artifacts still in place 54 years after the battle. Five different daily dive sites afford maximum selections and viewing of the lethal majesty of these coral encrusted wartime relics. Only 'THORFINN' provides each diver the opportunity to explore up to 30 different wrecks in 6 1/2 days of a regular weekly program.

These dive programs are set up to maximize the very real intrigues of 'Shipwreck City' and avoid the
suggestion of spending money on frivolous extras.

'THORFINN' departs each mid-year on a series of spell binding ocean tours with overnight crossings between outer island Paradises.
