The
waters within the Namena Barrier Reef were declared a marine reserve in
June, 2004. The absence of commercial fishing has resulted in a fast recovery
of the reef ecosystem, evident in the variety and numbers of marine species
that can be found here. Guests of Moody's Namena Resort will enjoy two
excursions a day. The morning boat departs the dock at 9am and returns
by about 11am. After a short hike, a leisurely lunch, or a nap on the
beach, you'll head out again between 1:30 and 2pm. Most dive sites are
10-15 minutes away. Tanks, air, weights, belts, divemaster, boat, &
crew are supplied. Please advise in advance if rental equipment will be
necessary.
The
resort's boats are Tofua (above), a 33 foot cabin cruiser, and the faster
Salt Shaker (left), a 28 foot launch with a 200 H.P. engine. Snorkelers
are welcome to join in the fun, as most dive sites are excellent for snorkeling
as well. The boat never anchors, but will drift along nearby for a convenient
pick up at any time. Come experience one of Fiji's most diverse reef ecosystems!
