Diving Information

Gizo is the second largest town in the Solomon Islands, and serves as the provincial   center to the Western Province.  With the appearance of a shanty town, the main street runs along the waterfront lined with small stores and an open air market.   Views in most directions show palm tree studded islands ringed by coral reef and clear waters.

Diving Since 1985 Adventure Sports Gizo have been exploring the waters around Gizo and our experience had allowed us to locate the dive sites that will suit everybody's level of experience and interest.  Adventure Sports can cater for singles, couples or groups, Operating 4 dive boats and have a wide range of rental gear for visitos.  Danny and Kerrie Kennedy and assisted by a teamn of personally trained staff, many of whom have experience in experience in excesss of then years.

TOA MARU:  A twenty minute boat ride grim gizo is one of the south Pacific's most popular divable WWII shipwrecks.  This a  virtually intact Japanese transport ship of some 140m (450) length lying on it's starboard side.  The dive starts at an easy 7 meters and slants to 37 meters.  Interesting  artifacts adorn the   vessel and t sunk before it  could be unloaded.  Some of the trinkets include saki bottles, medical supplies, office equipment and rounds of ammunition.   The larger objects include bombs, a motorbike and  a type 21 tank.  For the experienced divers a guided tour inside the wreck to the crew quarters, engine room and medical room is a must do adventure.

GRAND CENTRAL STATION:  If it s under water action you need then this is the place.  The most northwestern tip of the Gizo Islands is the merge point for the oceanic currents and it's here where the  fishlife, big and small, is at it's best.   Large soft corals and fans adorn the walls while the waters are patrolled by sharks, trevally and batfish.  a relatively easy dive for all levels of experience and there is a no need to go deep to see all the activity

THE HOTSPOT:  Our newest discovery found in the November 95, a small pinnacle only 5 meters form the surface surrounded by ocean depth s of 300 to 400 meters.  Its offshore diving with pelagic action with every swing of the tide and also the home to an interesting pink iridescent anenome.

AMERICAN HELLCAT FIGHTER PLANE:  the plane is completely intact and lying in ten meters of water.  a comprehensive history of the plane is available and the dive is high on the list for underwater photographers.

AMERICAN CORSAIR FIGHTER PLANE:  The pilot of this plane crashed onto the sea at great speed and the aircraft is in five recognisable large pieces around the 27 meter level.  However the attraction is not only the wreck but the fantastic marinelife on or around it.  The reef slope back to the boat is interesting and has it's own attraction in a bommie called clown fish city at the safety stop level.

THE MANTA DIVE:  An Adventure Sports Gizo Exclusive, this site is visited on request  and if the time is right then it's one show you wouldn't want to miss.

WWII:  For those with an interest in history, Kerrie and danny have researched the local WWII war history in Washington , USA, and Have information on well known subjects, such as JFK and the PT109.  Diving highlights are the intact Japanese transport Toa Maru, and 3 WWII air craft.  Bush walks can be arranged to WWII land sites.
